360 degree camera systems are becoming easier to install and a new company, Blackboxguard, based in Los Angeles, is riding the wave in driver safety.
It is distributing in the US a new Cammsys 360 degree surround view camera system that provides a birds eye view around the car.
Calibration time for the system is only 4 minutes and full installation time is 3 hours, or 4 hours for a first-time installation, said Jonathan Choi, Blackboxguard President. In the past, 360 camera system have taken up to 8 to 10 hours to install, he said.
The system includes four cameras placed around the car. The images from each camera are then stitched together to present a unified view.
To properly calibrate the stitching, installers place test patterns around the car and hit a button for quick calibration, said the company.
In addition the Cammsys provides blind spot monitoring, that shrinks potential blind spots to less than 2.37 inches.
The cameras offer wide 195 degree viewing for maximum coverage.
The Cammsys 360 works with many OEM infotainment systems or it can work with an aftermarket monitor.
Suggested retail price for the system is $1,299 with 40 to 50 percent margins.
The product is engineered and produced in South Korea.
