VOXX Electronics will offer Siri voice control over remote start as well as door lock/unlock and other features possibly by August.
Additionally DroneMobile (Firstech) said it plans to offer Siri remote start later this year.
Until now, Firstech refrained from offering remote start voice control because of security issues. (It’s DroneMobile offers only remote door lock/unlock and other concierge features via Alexa and Google Assistant, but not remote start). But Compustar’s Justin Lee said Apple’s built in security features allow for a secure way to add voice control to remote start without worrying that a driver might voice-start his engine by mistake.
VOXX’s Siri control will be offered through its through it’s CarLink remote-start-from-a-phone system, and CarLink users will also be able to check vehicle status by voice to confirm if their car is armed or not.
As CarLink is an addition to a remote start system that permits remote start from a phone and GPS, CarLink with Siri will work with many brands of remote start including Directed and Compustar digital models.
VOXX is also looking at making CarLink compatible with Alexa voice controls, it said during the recent Connected Car Show during CE Week in New York.
CarLink comes in either a cellular version with unlimited range or a Bluetooth Long Range version with over 1 mile range.
VOXX’s Joe Dentamaro said Siri control over door lock/unlock and check status features will be ready by August and Siri control over remote start most likely will be ready at the same time or it will be added as a running change around that time.
CarLink cellular sells for $249.99 with free service for the first year free including GPS tracking. The second year is $29.95. CarLink Bluetooth Long Range has a price of $149.99 with no service fees.
