Another New CarPlay Feature

CarPlay will allow users to purchase gas from their car radios starting this fall.

Reuters reported that CarPlay’s next generation, which launches with the new iOS 16 software update, will let consumers buy gas from the radio without needing to tap or swipe a credit card at the pump.

The first oil company to work with the system is HF Sinclair, which runs 1,600 gas stations across the US.  Reuters said HF Sinclair will announce more details in the coming months.

CarPlay already permits apps for payment of parking, electric vehicle charging and ordering food.

In order to pay for gas from CarPlay, users will need to download the fuel company’s app on their phone and enter payment information. From then on, users can tap on their radio screen to activate a pump and pay.

General Motors also tried to offer a pay-from-the-radio gas app in the past and eventually shuttered the service, Reuters said.
