Toyota is recalling 14,000 -18,000 vehicles whose backup cameras may fail to activate when the car is placed into reverse.
The failure is found on certain 2019 RAV4 and RAV4 Hybrid SUVs, said Consumer Reports.
Under the recall, Toyota will inspect the camera and, if it finds fault, will replace the entire audio system. The camera flaw may be due to a damaged connector in the audio display, reports ABC News.
Without a properly functioning backup camera, the SUVs violate the backup camera law that went into effect May 1, 2018 requiring all vehicles to have a 10×20 foot zone of visibility behind them.
Toyota will begin contacting affected vehicle owners September 23. Or owners may call Toyota at 888-270-9371. Owners may also go to NHTSA’s website and plug in their car’s VIN number. If the recall doesn’t appear, then your SUV isn’t affected.
